What does the research on kisspeptin actually show?

In human physiology studies since 2005, intravenous or subcutaneous kisspeptin reliably raised LH, FSH and sex steroids within minutes, with the response depending on sex and menstrual-cycle phase. A single kisspeptin-54 injection has been used as an oocyte-maturation trigger in IVF trials with live births reported. Continuous exposure desensitises the axis. No product is approved.

What is the half-life of kisspeptin?

Very short. In human intravenous studies kisspeptin-10 was cleared with a half-life of about 4 minutes and kisspeptin-54 in about 28 minutes. The downstream LH response lasts hours because the pituitary and gonadal response outlasts the peptide.

How was kisspeptin dosed in studies?

Kisspeptin-10 was given intravenously at 0.3 to 1 µg/kg as a bolus or 4 µg/kg/h as an infusion; kisspeptin-54 subcutaneously at 0.4 to 12.8 nmol/kg. Those were physiology experiments and IVF trials under monitoring. There is no validated dose for any clinical use, and this page does not recommend one; the material sold here is for research use only.

What side effects does kisspeptin research report?

Good tolerability across several hundred volunteers: no serious adverse events attributed to the peptide, occasional mild injection-site reactions, and no consistent cardiovascular effects. The predictable signals are endocrine — acute rises in gonadotropins and sex steroids, and desensitisation with frequent dosing. Long-term data does not exist.

Is kisspeptin legal in Canada?

Kisspeptin is not a controlled substance in Canada, but it has no Health Canada approval for human use and no DIN. It may be sold for laboratory research, which is how it is sold here. Under the WADA list, LH-releasing factors including kisspeptin are prohibited in male athletes.

Kisspeptin-10 vs kisspeptin-54 — what is the difference?

They activate the same receptor with essentially the same potency; kisspeptin-54 is the full-length peptide and kisspeptin-10 its C-terminal ten residues. The difference is stability: kisspeptin-54's half-life is about seven times longer, which is why the IVF trials used it and why most physiology studies of kisspeptin-10 used infusions.
