PT-141 — generic name bremelanotide — is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone that acts on the melanocortin receptor family, with MC4R the receptor of interest. It is unusual among research peptides in that it is an approved medicine somewhere: the U.S. FDA licensed it in 2019 as Vyleesi for one narrow indication in premenopausal women. It holds no authorisation in Canada.
